Microsoft Office/365: Boot Camp! August 20, Thursday 10:00 – 1:30 EST

Overview

Welcome to the Microsoft Office/365 Boot Camp (high heels and sneakers welcomed, too), where we comprehensively learn four applications in one session. Students will learn important new features in Microsoft’s Office and 365 suite,  Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook applications. This unique class is for current users of Office/365. On a geeky note, in 2020, Microsoft announced the end of the Office product line; support ends for all Office products in October, 2025. The newest product is Microsoft 365 which I’ve had for five years and includes the applications from the former Office Suite. Bye-bye, Office, I’ve enjoyed you for over 30 years! Hello, Microsoft 365, I hope to use you another 30 years!

Here are some of the items we will learn:

  • Set important options in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook,
  • Customizing the Ribbon and Quick Access Toolbar,
  • Use the new features in Microsoft Office/365,
  • Work with the cloud (OneDrive and/or Dropbox) for storing your files,
  • Format documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and Outlook items using the Ribbon, the Mini Toolbar, and the Quick Access Toolbar,
  • Increase productivity with features that span all applications.

Prerequisites

This is course is not recommended for those new to the computer nor comfortable with basic operations of Windows and the Microsoft Office/365 Suite. I designed this course for current users of Microsoft Office 2010 through 2019 and Microsoft 365.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Navigate and use Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook,
  • Increase productivity through customization,
  • Know new features and important options in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook,
  • Save time with shortcuts and tons of tips and tricks,
  • Use new Office/365 features, such as Quick Analysis, Flash Fill, Read Aloud, Charts,
  • Customize Office/365 to fit your needs through tabs, buttons, and the Quick Access Toolbar.

Course Content

Lesson 1: The Ribbon Interface and Shortcuts – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Explore the new Interface with the Ribbon, Tabs, Groups, and Command Buttons,
  • Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar and the Ribbon,
  • Shortcuts and tips and tricks with the Ribbon interface,
  • Keyboard shortcuts across the Office/365 suite,
  • Modifying buttons, tabs, and the Quick Access Toolbar.

Lesson 2: The New and Improved File Tab – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

  • Common Commands and the new Open/Recent Lists,
  • Customize the Recent File lists,
  • Pin and unpin documents and files,
  • Print, Print Preview, and Page Set-up in one screen,
  • Storing, sharing, and retrieving Office documents in the cloud (OneDrive, Dropbox).

Lesson 3: Options, Options, Options

  • Set important Options and learn new options for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook,
  • Save and Proofing Options,
  • AutoCorrect and AutoText,
  • Advanced Options,
  • Popular Options.

Lesson 4: Latest and Greatest: New Features

  • Word – Read Aloud, Editor, Immersive, and Page Movement,
  • Excel – Format as Table, New charts,
  • PowerPoint – Design elements and styles, New animations/transitions,
  • Outlook – Read Aloud, email and calendar management,
